Using SAN technology, your colocated or managed servers are connected via our private IP storage backbone to allocated storage maintained in our storage network. Your server then sees this storage just as another disk. Your current servers can have access to terabytes of storage that would be impractical or impossible to configure using directly-attached disks.
Feature Focus: Storage Virtualization
Storage virtualization refers to the process of completely abstracting logical storage from physical storage. The physical storage resources (disk drives) are aggregated into storage pools, from which the logical storage is created. With storage virtualization, multiple independent storage devices appear to be a single monolithic storage device. The advtange this creates is that the storage subsystem can be scaled to huge sizes, facilitating simple growth of client data volumes--no need to back up data, format a new larger drive, and then reinstall the data on it. In most cases, the volume can be grown in place. Storage virtualization also creates additional opportunities for increased redundancy, allowing critical storage to be mirrored not only across drives in a storage unit, but across multiple storage units.
